Limes Care Home in Birmingham (B38 8JZ), was interested in dealing with increasing utility bills and also minimising its environmental footprint. Being a care home, energy is constantly needed throughout the year for rooms, special equipment and more. The management was interested in a sustainable solution that would provide financial and environmental advantages, while reducing grid dependency.

Solar4Good developed and implemented a 79.65 kWp solar PV system that fits into the pitched roof structure and a multi-orientation design of the building. The system was to maximise energy output and offer long-term efficiency of operation

The technical scope included:

  • 177 × DMEG 450W solar panels (79.65 kWp total capacity)
  • 1 × Fox V50 – V Series 50kW 3-Phase Inverter
  • Pitched roof: 27° orientation (East, South & West)
  • Project Cost: £55,000

Feasibility and design to installation, Solar4Good provided an optimised system that optimised care home operations.

Key aspects included:

  • Multi-Orientation Design: The panels are erected on east, south, and west facing roofs in order to capture maximum sunlight all through the day.
  • High-Efficiency Technology: DMEG Tier 1 panels and Fox inverter to generate stable long-lasting output.
  • Resident-Focused Approach:Planning to minimise disturbance to residents during installation.
  • Compliance/Safety: Installation met the UK safety and electrical regulations..

With 80,000kWh of power generated per year, the system leads to 40 percent or more of the energy self-sufficiency of the care home.
